Six Pack Myth- Doing thousands of Abdominal crunches will give me a six pack
Fact is no matter how many sit ups you do in a day, you will not be seeing a six-pack in a hurry if you have a layer of fat covering it up. When you exercise, fat is lost from throughout the body. The place that you first put on weight (usually the hips and thighs for women, the stomach for men) is the last place you will lose it from. It is not possible to focus on one body part and only work it in an attempt to reduce that fatty area. Doing lots of abdominal exercises will help to strengthen and develop your abdominal muscles, and you may develop a good six pack. You will have to also reduce your excess body fat to show off your well defined abdominal muscles to the world.
Muscle Fitness Myth- If you stop exercising your muscles turn into fat
Muscles don’t actually turn into fat as they are very different body tissues and it is not physically possible from one to change into the other. If you stop exercising, there will be a reduction in your muscle mass A reduction in activity, and a reduced muscle mass, means a reduction in your metabolic rate, which can lead to weight gain and fat storage. So, by stopping exercise you generally lose muscle and gain fat, which seems like you are turning muscle to fat, but it does not physically occur
A woman will get muscles as big as guy if she lifts heavier weight.
This myth never seems to die. A woman has approximately one third of the testosterone of a man. Unless she is on anabolic steroids, growth hormone or other enhancing drugs, a woman will never achieve the muscular size of a man. However, she can get a degree of muscularity that makes her lean, toned and tight.
I need to spend at least 1 hour in the gym everyday
It is not the amount of time that you spend in a gym but the intensity of your workout that matters . A short intense workout can be very effective. It is important that an elevated heart rate is maintained for at least 30 minutes, while working out. This is why circuit training is very effective , as it has very minimal rest.
The more I sweat, the more weight I lose
Sweating doesn't lead to actual weight loss. You may be a kilogram or two lighter after prolonged periods of excessive sweating. But as soon as you have something to drink, the weight will come back. Sweating doesn't significantly change your basal metabolic rate,or energy expenditure, enough to cause genuine weight loss
